Travel Interview With Packed Again

Hello please introduce yourself and your blog to our readers.

Hi, my name is Corina, a mum of twins, a wife, a small holiday rental business owner and a brand new family travel & adventure blogger. Travelling has always been a passion of mine. Globetrotting the world for over 14 years, part of it together with my husband, has shown us some of the most amazing places and we were able to make some incredible encounters with locals, animals and the nature itself. The love and passion for all the above has now been transferred to our children who already at three are some great nomads in the making.

When and why did you start blogging?

When I had the idea of starting this Family Travel & Adventures site in July 2018, it was more an idea of creating an information and memory book. Somewhere we, my husband and I, but most importantly the kids could come and take a trip down memory lane.

I figured an actual photo-book would do the thing, but then the excitement and challenge of whether I would actually be able to create a blog site from scratch and have other people interact with it, was greater. And here I am, a brand-new beginner family blogger.

The purpose of our Family Travel & Adventure blog was at first for us, to write down memories. But soon after starting the writing, I discovered that there are a lot of families out there who are either scared to travel, have no idea how to get started or simply feel it is not worth to take a toddler on a trip. This has made me quite said, as these families are missing out on what is the best bonding time with the family. So, my mission to encourage all families to go out there and explore the world was born.

How did you decide your blogs name?

This was the easiest aspect of the whole blogging concept so far. “Packed Again” was born because we had packed again for another trip just before starting my blog. We stood in front of the car and said, well here we are, packed again for another road trip. Et Voila… the name was chosen! I wish it would have been so easy when we had to choose the name for our kids (smile)

How long have you been blogging?

Brand new, July 2018

What plans do you have in the future for your blog?

Honestly, I would LOVE to be THE blog, where families come to get travel information and destinations ideas. To be able to help people and be “The” resource channel, would be a dream come true. To be asked, to go on a paid press trip, and write about a new family related adventures, would just be insanely amazing.

But let’s stay focused and real, there are a ton of good family travel bloggers out there with much more experience and knowledge. I will carry on building it up, stay focused and see where we are in 1-2 years.

Projects coming up & places to visit

There are three trips already planned. I love this.

First a small family friendly trip to Italy, nothing special really planned on what to write about. As this is also a holiday for me. (smile)

However, I am excited about our upcoming South-Africa trip in November. I am focusing at the moment on getting an interest/invite from some of the local game lodges and animal sanctuaries, for an article about “Ethical kids friendly encounter with the animals, and how the whole tourism industry has an influence on the work in some of the sanctuaries.” I hope it will come to fruition, as I feel it could be a very interesting article, and hopefully a positive experience.

The Ultimate Road and National Park trip in Canada – British Colombia, The Rockies and North America will be the highlight in 2019. Have not yet decided on a focus subject, and main interest, but it will be great for sure.

I have actually my first Collabs planned with some other Swiss bloggers. A Christmas article about a subject in Switzerland. Would love to learn and do some more.

Does your blog cover anything else other than travel? If so what?

A small part is also on advice with kids and families but all really travel related. So, I guess the answer is, no.

What can our readers find on your website? Trip -Itineraries, -Ideas, -Advice, Travel gear and great photography.

Do you have any travel tips or advice for our readers that might want to start a travel blog?

I am just writing an article about this subject on my blog.

I think the main thing is;
Ask yourself these three questions before even opening a computer.

  1. What do you want to write about?
  2. Do I have TIME to invest in a blog? If yes, great. If not really, ask yourself if you want to make time and how you could organise some more time? As you will need it.
  3. Depending on your niche on what you will be writing about, if it is something where you are the brand and your life will be in the eyes of the public, like a travel writer, or parenting, are you and your family ok with this? Different if your interest is in health products or food, here you can be quite anonymous.

If after these questions, you still feel the great need to jump on to the blogging “trampoline” go for it. But make it the right way, engage in a GOOD blogging start up course. Spend some money on the whole set up and don’t stress. Quality is way larger then quantity. And every growth is a growth.

What are some of the highs and lows of travel blogging?

The only highs so far are my kids and family love my blog site (smile) the frustration more than the low is the slow process it all takes. I would Love to have a full month where I can concentrate solely on my blog.

What sites or other resources do you use to decide where and when you will go to a certain place or destination?

We decide as a family where to go and what interests we have. Of course, the kids are still a bit too small to actually have a great influence in the whole planning and decide with us. I can’t wait until they actually will be able to choose a destination and help create the itinerary.

Once decided we then search around on other families trip itineraries and also other travellers. Pinterest is a Mecca for this!

Do you have any favourite travel books you have read or use?

Lonely planet is still one of the greatest I believe. But these days with the internet there is a ton of information out there.

What’s been some of your favourite destinations & why?

This has to be the continent of Africa. There is just something about it. South-Africa is the only place on earth which we have been back to already twice and this November will be the third time. Namibia with its stunning nature and vast emptiness is absolutely mind-blowing.

Botswana for its rawness and pure Africa feel.

Difficult to explain why, I love the wildlife and Africa’s nature. Just beautiful.

But there are other destinations, Tuscany in Italy is so beautiful with its landscapes.

The Maldives, unique and a dream in itself.

Thailand, a culture to love and food to die for.

Actually, just talking about it all, Pulau Weh in Sumatra is also on the very top with the absolute favorite destinations. A place where time just stands still. Visited in 1994 and then again in 2000, and nothing had changed during these 6 years.

Do you have a money saving travel tips?

Not really, just shop around especially for the flights, there are so many possibilities out there. Save on accommodation and food during your travels, but most of it all make sure it happens and you can afford to go.

Was there a place you visited that did not live up to your expectations & why.

Not really, we just make it live up to our expectations, take what is there and offered to us.

What’s in your travel bag?

Change of clothes for the kids together with their snack box, first-aid box, drink bottles and my phone. How things change when you travel with kinds

What are 3 things travelling has thought you?

Being more patient

Widened my tolerance and understanding level of different abilities in persons.

Be happy and content with what you have

Have you encountered any travel mishaps or scary moments if so what happened?

Tsunami 2004 ;(

Do you have any recommendations for cities and beach places that you have visited and loved?

Best beach must be the Maldives for sure. There is only one place on earth where the sand is white like flour and the water crystal clear.

But also the English Coast in North Cornwall, especially Trevone Beach is a must for beach lovers and families. Not so much for swimming but a dream for all other beach activities.

Have you visited any off the beaten track places?

This was way before the kids and me starting to blog. I was in Laos when it just opened to tourism. So pretty undeveloped but absolutely great. You needed to ask the local if they could spare a bed. Loved it!

Best places you have visited or want to visit for cultural experiences.

The question above has probably just answered this one as well. Laos.

What are 5 things you wish you knew about blogging before you started?

This is an inspiration really… This shows that travelling with kids and family is also possible… Here it is a sort of taboo, people tend to step back from frequently travelling out.
